Tunisia-President Kaïs Saïed speaks with head of Libya’s Presidential Council

The President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed had, this Monday, February 8, 2021, a telephone conversation with the head of Libya’s Presidential Council  Mohamed Younes Al-Manfi.

The President of the Republic invited Mr. Al-Manfi and all the members of the elected executive power to visit Tunisia as soon as possible.

On this occasion, the Head of State communicated his profound satisfaction with the success of the Libyan elections, recognised as a  historic event because they arise from the will of the Libyans themselves.

In this context, President Saïed evoked that the lasting solution to the crisis in Libya can only be Libyan-Libyan, a stance he has stated on many occasions, in particular when Tunisia hosted the first forum of Libyan political dialogue in November 2020.

The Head of State further asserted his desire to secure that relationships between Tunisia and Libya remain those of one and only people who share distinguished historical ties.

For his part, the President of the Presidential Council extended his gratitude to the President of the Republic for this appeal, declaring the wish to examine new horizons for relations between Tunisia and Libya. He further praised the firm positions shown by the head of state, especially with regard to the need for power in Libya to come from the free will of the people.
