Tunisia-President Kais Saied: We respect the rule of law, but it will have to be revised so that it is a sincere and full expression of the will of the majority

President Kais Saïed delivered to prime minister-designate Hichem Mechichi a mission letter to form the new Cabinet, a declaration released late Saturday evening by the Presidency reads.
The head of state called on Mechichi to form the new government within a period not surpassing one month from tomorrow, Sunday, July 26, 2020.
Saied said that this decision was made after taking notice of the recommendations directed by the representatives of parties and parliamentary groups to the Presidency of the Republic, in accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution.
Referring to the coincidence of this appointment with the celebration of the Republic Day, Kais Saied addressed Tunisians in these terms: “Until when (it will last) and (do we know) where we are going”, expressing his concern about the time it has taken to form the government since last November.
“Satisfying the legitimate demands of the people and the poor are urgent priorities,” he said, adding that the preservation of social peace and respect for the law is sacred.
“We respect the rule of law, but it will have to be revised so that it is a sincere and full expression of the will of the majority,” he concluded.
For his part, Hichem Mechichi expressed pride in the confidence placed in him by the President of the Republic, expressing his commitment to do everything possible to form a government that meets the expectations of Tunisians and their legitimate aspirations.
