Tunisia-President Kais Saied:Quranic text is clear and economic and social rights must be settled between women and men before talking about inheritance

The President of the Republic, Kais Saied in a speech on the occasion of Women’s Day, that the Tunisian revolution was established for the sake of freedom, dignity and social justice.

Said added that if the debate and the conflict were about inheritance, then it is a wrong and not an  innocent struggle, “as if the Tunisians have accounts in foreign banks.”

Let us first settle between women and men in economic and social rights before talking about inheritance and criticizing it,he added

The head of state stated that the Qur’an text is clear and does not accept the interpretation. The inheritance system in Islam is not based on formal equality, but on justice and fairness.

The president remarked that equality in liberal thought is formal equality that is not based on justice as much as you delude it, and only those who are financially able to do so enjoy equality.

Said stressed that the current constitutional text in Tunisia refers to the equality between male and female citizens, wondering whether the relationship between a son and his mother, a son and his father, a son and brothers is a citizen -citizen relationship or a relationship based on family ties.
