Tunisia-President of Republic receives message from Mauritanian counterpart

President of the Republic, Kais Saied, welcomed Mauritanian  Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk at Carthage Palace on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Marzouk delivered a message from Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

During the meeting, the President of the Republic reiterated Tunisia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights to establish an independent state on all of the land of Palestine, with Holy Jerusalem as its capital.

Further, the President hailed the robust links and deep cultural ties between Tunisia and Mauritania, recalling pivotal moments from their shared history. Tunisia holds the distinction of being the first country to recognize Mauritania’s independence in November 1960.

The President renewed an invitation to President Ghazouani to visit Tunisia, stressing that such a visit would reinforce the existing year of consultation and coordination between the two countries. It would also breathe new life into cooperation relations, not only in traditional areas of cooperation but also in emerging sectors such as gas and iron, with a focus on enhancing trade exchange.

The conversation also provided a chance for the President to highlight Tunisia’s pride in its African dimension. He voiced a keen interest in actively contributing to the development of joint action and fostering opportunities for consultation and consensus between African countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally. This commitment aims to realize the aspirations and dreams of the people of the continent.
