The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, departed Italy this evening, Thursday, June 17, 2021, at the conclusion of his visit to Italy on June 16 and 17, 2021, at the invitation by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
The head of the state ended his official visit to Italy by supervising a meeting of the Tunisian community, attended by the Tunisian Ambassador in Rome and the Tunisian Consuls in Italy at the Ambassador’s residence.
The Head of State commended the concern of Tunisians abroad to back the national development effort and their capacity as a cultural and social link between Tunisia and the nations of residence, and their important contribution to supporting the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic in Tunisia.
He stressed the continued interest in the circumstances of Tunisians abroad, remarking that he is continually listening to the concerns and suggestions of the community via the diplomatic channels and wishes to expand the means of communication with them, to preserve their rights, provide them with consular and social advice and bring together the services given to them.
In this context, the President of the Republic declared that he has decided to strengthen the Tunisian consular presence in Italy, through the creation of a new Tunisian consulate in Bologna.
Mr Saied further indicated that he continuously monitors the case of irregular immigration and that of Tunisians missing in Italy.
Emphasizing in this regard, the necessity to approach these issues according to a comprehensive approach that integrates security, economic, social and cultural dimensions.
