Tunisia- President Saied meets with ambassadors of EU member countries

The President of the Republic, Kais Saied addressed, during his meeting with a delegation of the ambassadors of the countries of the European Union at the Carthage Presidential Palace, led by Marcus Cornaro, ambassador of the EU, multiple subjects including corruption, migration and the role of women in society.

The fight against corruption, the recovery of stolen assets, the acquisition of COVID-19 vaccines and large-scale projects, including Kairouan Medical City and the High-Speed Train (TGV) between Bizerte and southern Tunisia are correspondingly significant areas of cooperation, the President stated during his meeting. The meeting presented the chance for the Head of State to lay emphasis on his commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law and remind of the constants of Tunisia’s foreign policy. Tunisia has the potential to be a democratic country far away from narrow political calculations, he added.

President Saied underscored the importance of the role performed by Tunisian women in different fields. Civil society, adding that is now the actual driving force of political life.

The crucial role of youth in ensuring the success of the Revolution process was similarly praised.

In another connection, the cooperation strategy between Tunisia and the European bloc and relationships with EU member countries were examined. Issues in relation to Tunisia’s role in its environment and in establishing equal relations with its European partners took the focus off the stage.

The President said there is a need for a diverse approach that would bring about sustainable resolutions for such issues as migration, spoliated funds and economic and financial cooperation. Solidarity among countries is required to address the pandemic and related challenges.
