Tunisia-President Saied:State is existent, Freedoms are secured and police and citizens are not enemies

President Kaïs Saïed paid an unannounced visit to the Ministry of Interior headquarters where he organized a working session with security officials, in the attendance of Prime Minister and acting Minister of the Interior Hichem Mechichi.

During this meeting, the necessity to unite police union action towards the establishment of a general union of internal security forces was highlighted. This union could have “representative structures” through voting, a recommendation put forward by the President of the Republic since 2012, reads a statement from the Presidency.

President Kaïs Saïed underscored the continuity of the state confirming that the head of state is the guarantor of its continuity. “The State is existent. Freedoms are secured and the police and citizens are not enemies,” he stated, adding that he will not allow any attempt to impair either the security institution or freedoms.

For the head of the state, the security forces are at the service of the State and not of any party. He reaffirmed his support for the security forces, all units included. The Head of State cautioned against any try to utilise the security institution for political ends, emphasising the need to meet the demands of the Tunisian people within the framework of a “peaceful coexistence” between authority and freedom. “No one is above the law,” he warned.

In addition, the Head of State marched along the Avenue Habib Bourguiba, where he had impromptu talks with citizens. They, among other things, sang slogans calling for the dissolution of parliament
