Tunisia – Presidential: Ayachi Zammel’s campaign rejects Sigma Conseil estimates

On Sunday evening, the campaign of presidential candidate Ayachi Zammal issued a press release vehemently denying the preliminary estimates of the Tunisian presidential election results, presented by Hassan Zargouni, the director of Sigma Conseil, a private polling institution.

The campaign emphasised that they are “awaiting the official preliminary results” and remain quite confident that Zammal will advance to the second round. The press release also criticized Sigma Conseil for surpassing legal boundaries by publishing “alleged estimates of the election results” to “influence public opinion to accept certain outcomes.”

Earlier, Hassan Zargouni disclosed the preliminary vote estimates for the 2024 presidential elections in Tunisia:

  • Kais Saied: 89.2% (2,194,150 votes)
  • Al-Ayachi Zammel: 6.9% (169,727 votes)
  • Zouhair Al-Maghzawi: 3.9% (95,933 votes)

According to the head of Tunisia’s Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), Farouk Bouaskar, the initial voter turnout in the presidential elections held on Sunday was 27.7%, with a total of 2,704,155 voters. The participation rate within the country was 28.5% (2,599,252 votes), while abroad, it was 16.3% (104,903 voters).
