Tunisia: Presidential commitment to strengthen employment and fight against professional insecurity

President, Kais Saied, welcomed on February 12, 2024, Lotfi Zitoun, Minister of Employment and Professional Training, and Riadh Chaoued, Secretary of State in charge of Community Societies.

During this meeting, Saied stressed the significance of professional training as a vector of employment and wealth creation. He affirmed his backing for entrepreneurs of community companies, insisting on the necessity to overcome the administrative obstacles which hinder the launch of their projects.

The president criticized abusive practices in the exploitation of public assets and called for an urgent examination of subcontracting, which he compares to a form of modern slavery, where the work of men and women is degraded.

Saied furthermore addressed the issue of fixed-term contracts, often renewed every three months, depriving workers of fundamental rights and professional stability.

The president insisted on the balance of rights between employers and workers, underlining the responsibility of the State to guarantee fair remuneration and job security for all.
