Tunisia- Price increases: Democratic bloc demands the hearing of Hichem Mechichi

Condemning the latest decisions adopted by the government, including increasing some basic foodstuffs, the Democratic bloc commanded a session to be held to hear the government on:

  • The gravity of the financial situation
  • The sharp increase in prices
  • The high rate of unemployment and poverty
  • The different sectoral strikes including engineers
  • The relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and its critical diktats
  • The plan to cede certain public goods to the Libyans and the Qatari
  • The prime minister’s visits to Libya and Qatar and their economic and financial profits
  • Activation of laws relating to long-term unemployed and construction workers

The bloc further insisted on the necessity for the presence of Hichem Mechichi in person, evoking that the latter has not attended a single hearing session for almost 4 months, in flagrant violation of article 95 of the constitution.
