UTAP member Bayrem Hamada confirmed this Friday, on a private radio station, that it is the international market which fixes the price of olive oil.
He added that the expected harvest this year will be about 200 thousand tonnes, while Tunisian consumption hardly surpasses 35 thousand tonnes. The remainder must be sold on the international market, to earn foreign currencies which the country needs more than ever.
He added that it is expected that the litre of olive oil will vary, in Tunisia, between 20 and 22 TND per litre, while it will be around 10 to 12 Euros, abroad.
