Tunisia – Prices of food products should fall during Ramadan

The President of the Consumer Information Organization, Lotfi Riahi, stated today, Tuesday, February 6, 2024, that some of the decisions taken by the Ministry of Commerce comprise a detailed measure that will determine the prices practised during Ramadan.

He added that among the decisions are the freezing of food prices and the determination of the profit margin of commercial cooperation services, emphasising that structuring prices is a critical issue in the rise in prices, particularly in light of continued inflation.

Riahi highlighted that these measures are in the interest of the consumer and that if these decisions are executed with all the necessary rigour and seriousness, there will automatically be a reduction in prices.

He added: “Starting next week, many items will see a price drop if the decisions are implemented. »

The cost of the Tunisian “basket” will be roughly 50 dinars during the month of Ramadan for a family of 4 members, if prices continue to remain steady, according to Riahi’s confirmation.

According to the head of the Consumer Orientation Organization, the cost of consumption during  Ramadan will be between one thousand dinars and one thousand five hundred dinars, for a family, because Tunisians do not consume much white meat during the month of Ramadan.
