Tunisia-Rached Ghannouchi: Parties seek to reinstate dictatorship

Speaking to an American newspaper last Saturday, House speaker Rached Ghannouchi said that Tunisia is undergoing a nascent democracy, adding that it has taken advantage of the past decade to start a transition process that intends to separate from the former despotic regime.

He pointed out, nevertheless, that some parties aim to reinstate an authoritarian regime yielding to an absolute power that does not believe in democracy but in a particular leader who possesses all the powers. He stated that these same parties have begun to attack democratic institutions and other political parties with the sole purpose of destroying them and tarnishing their image.
