A decline was registered in the percentage of Tunisians arriving on the Italian coasts by approximately 42 per cent, during the period extending from the start of January until March 21, compared to the same period last year, spokesman for the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, Ramadan Ben Omar told Tunisie Numérique.
Ben Omar stressed that Tunisian nationality placed third among the nationalities arriving in Italy, despite documenting a drop of about 86 percent in arrivals, as the Tunisian authorities have, since the beginning of the year, stopped the passage of about 9,000 irregular migrants from the Tunisian coast since the beginning of the year.
The same source also revealed that these numbers were the result of unsuitable climatic factors during this period, but indications of an irregular migratory wave starting from the Tunisian coasts have been observed in recent weeks, which may be reinforced in the coming period in the form of improved climatic factors.
