Tunisia-Raoudha Grafi calls on Kais Saied to refrain from any intervention in the judiciary

On the sidelines of a press conference today, Honorary President of the Association of Tunisian Magistrates (ATM) Raoudha Grafi depicted President Kais Saied’s meeting with representatives of the judiciary as stunning. She stated that the Head of State has made clear his position concerning the Constitution, the judiciary and the bodies operating in this area.

Recollecting that Saied had expressed his dissatisfaction with the functioning of the judiciary, Grafi criticised the fact of threatening the magistrates to dissolve the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). Grafi declared Saied’s demand for magistrates to decide certain cases constitutes dangerous interference with the judiciary.

“The judiciary is the only guarantor of the balance of power, particularly in the context of exceptional measures where the president monopolizes all the powers” added the same source, calling on Saied to abstain from any interference in the power in question. Declining to consider the judiciary as a “function”, Grafi called for mobilization to fight against the violation of the principle of the separation of powers.
