Tunisia-Raphael’s most famous portraits in Hd on show in Tunis

The magnificence of Italian Renaissance art meets technological innovation thanks to an itinerant exhibit on Raphael’s portraits to open in Tunis on February 28 through March 28.

On the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death, the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation and State broadcaster RAI are promoting a project to admire in one place high-definition reproductions of Raphael’s masterworks.

Tunis, and in particular the new Macam gallery of the Musée National d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de la Cité de la Culture, will host the first part of an itinerant exhibit that will tour the world.

This initiative is part of the project ”Opera Omnia” promoted by the ministry and RAI and stems from the consideration that the masterworks of Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio and other great masters are scattered in museums, churches and private collections across the world, which makes it impossible to organize monographic shows.

With ”Opera Omnia”, one exhibition space can host the faithful reproduction of the original works in high definition.

The initiative in Tunis represents a new occasion of collaboration between the Italian embassy, the Italian cultural institute and the city of culture, in this case the Musée National d’Art Moderne et Contemporain. The collaboration with Professor Antonio Paolucci, one of the top art experts in Italy and in the world and the show’s curator, certifies the scientific rigor at the heart of the project, which has the objective of creating an experience of contact with Italy’s cultural heritage through the visualization of extremely high-resolution, real-scale Italian masterpieces that are part of the permanent collections of museums worldwide.

The show offers the unique opportunity of admiring in one place 14 digital reproductions of Raphael’s original paintings in their real dimension. The reproductions are illuminated and located in a special structure so they can be admired from every angle.
