Tunisia: Reduction of sentence for Rached Khiari to 2 months in prison

The correctional chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tunis 2 recently modified the ruling inflicted on the former member of the dissolved parliament, Rached Khiari, lowering his sentence to two months in prison.

This decision follows an appeal judgment regarding his involvement in a defamation case on social networks.

Initially, Khiari was convicted to seven months in prison based on a complaint filed by a public official, accusing him of publishing defamatory posts against him.

The Court consequently accepted the appeal procedure both in form and in substance but decided to reduce the sentence to two months’ imprisonment, marking a clear reduction compared to the original sentence.
