Tunisia-Republican People’s Union decides not to grant confidence to Hichem Mechichi government

The Republican People’s Union decided not to grant confidence to prime minister-designate Hichem Mechichi government.
In an issued statement, the party said that a technocratic government contradicts the spirit of the constitution, the adopted  political system and the root of democracy. The party further stressed its respect for the popular will as it came in the elections.
It further urged political parties not to grant confidence for a government that has no legitimacy but the one of a president that resorted to circumventing the principles of the Second Republic in an outrageous movement that skips on the popular will and scorns it.
It also asked the deputies to “assume their responsibilities and give priority to the supreme interest of the country and not to cling to seats at the expense of values and principles.”
