The General Labour Union in Tozeur called for preparation to begin and prepare to enter into numerous forms of struggle in defence of the region’s right to the advancement and the right of its youth to decent work.”
The call comes after what the regional union described as the marginalization and exclusion of the region, in prime minister Hichem Mechichi speech on Monday 9 November 2020, in which the region was ejected from holding a regional council to examine the development situation along with a number of regions in the country.
In an issued statement, the regional UGTT denounced this “marginalization and exclusion” notwithstanding the region’s declining living conditions as a result of the deterioration of the two main sectors in the region, agriculture and tourism.
It also pointed out that situation worsened in the silence of consecutive governments despite many correspondences sent by the union to these governments, urging them to change the course of development in the region.
