Tunisia-Riadh Sidaoui- This is why the Al Jazeera office was closed

The director of the Arab Center for Research and Political and Social Analysis (Caraps) based in Geneva Riadh Sidaoui announced that on July 25 Kais Saied stopped a coup de State from taking place.

Speaking to Jawhara FM, he affirmed that Hichem Mechichi, Rached Ghannouchi, Hasna Ben Slimane and even former defence minister Brahim Bartagi planned to carry out a coup against the President of the Republic, he explained. After the failure of this attempt, Ennahdha is said to have requested Al Jazeera channel to broadcast from Hichem Mechichi’s house a video message addressed to the security forces during which the former prime minister calls on the civilian armed forces to  rebel against the President of the Republic.

According to Sidaoui. the actual reason for the closure of Al Jazeera’s office, therefore, has nothing to do with freedom of expression, stating that the channel’s suspicious silence on what has been occurring in Tunisia for about 10 days is actually motivated by its involvement in the attempted coup against the Tunisian head of state.
