Tunisia – Saïed reassures businessmen and calls on them to support state efforts

President of the Republic, Kais Saied, welcomed, on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Carthage Palace  Mr. Samir Majoul, president of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Crafts.

This meeting was an occasion during which the head of the state recollected the national role of this ancestral organization, calling on its members to back the efforts of the State at this stage in Tunisia’s history.

The President of the Republic emphasised that the battle against corruption does not target businessmen who work in full compliance with the law, refuting what some propagate on this subject.

The President of the Republic clarified that most businessmen were victims of corruption and tyranny, underlining that businessmen are not only owners of large institutions, but also owners of small and medium-sized businesses, and many of them still are. They groan under legislation devised to suit a small number of people, and they suffer from lobbies who desire to seize all the wealth of the country and who take shelter behind these legislations and behind those who promulgated them.

The President of the Republic stressed the necessity for financial institutions, in general, to play a role in promoting a national economy based above all on autonomy and the creation of real wealth benefiting all, on the basis of social justice.

The President of the Republic likewise stressed the need for the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Crafts to contribute to lowering prices, because the considerable increase in the prices of a number of basic products weighs on the overwhelming majority of Tunisians, especially small traders and industrialists, and these internal pressures, as well as external challenges, can only be faced by working together, united.
