Tunisia – Saïed receives Libyan Minister of Interior

President of the Republic, Kais Saied, welcomed Monday May 6, 2024, at Carthage Palace , Major General Imed Mustafa Trabelsi, the designated Libyan Minister of the Interior.

The meeting examined the distinguished ties between the two brotherly countries and the determination to further develop them in all areas, particularly in the area of coordinating efforts regarding the issue of irregular migration.

The President of the Republic reiterated that this phenomenon, which is getting worse every day, can only be fought by coordinating and integrating positions and eradicating its causes within the framework of a new approach in which all countries participate. concerned.

The President of the Republic recalled Tunisia’s firm position, which is the complete and principled rejection of our country being considered a point of passage or residence for those who come there outside the framework of the law.

On another level, during this meeting, joint work between the two countries was discussed to quickly overcome all hardships to reopen the Ras Jedir crossing, not only for its economic and commercial importance, but also to consolidate the common belief that the Tunisian and Libyan people are one people, and crossing borders in one direction or another is natural and must be done under the most suitable circumstances, which Tunisia and Libya strive to do achieved in perfect harmony.
