Tunisia-Saïed: ”Tunisia accepts cooperation, not charity”

President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, welcomed, yesterday Monday, October 2, 2023, at Carthage Palace, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar.

According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, the meeting concentrated on Tunisia’s participation in the work of the United Nations General Assembly and the meetings which took place on the sidelines thereof, as well as on the results of Nabil Ammar’s visit to Moscow and Pretoria.

The Head of State voiced his satisfaction with the positive response that the country is starting to find in international games and in numerous capitals, whether in the North or the South, thanks to the introduction of new approaches, breaking with what prevailed in the past.

The President of the Republic also specified that the entire world is witnessing major transformations and that Tunisia, which adheres to the principles of non-alignment, must be on stage with these transformations and be an active partner, with its voice and its solid positions, to write a new history for humanity.

On another level, the meeting focused on Tunisia’s relations with the European Union, in particular the recent offer to support Tunisia’s budget and to battle against illegal immigration. The President of the Republic stressed, in this sense, that Tunisia, which accepts cooperation, does not accept anything that resembles charity, “because our country and our people do not want empathy… As a result, Tunisia refuses what has been reported in recent days by the European Union, not because of the insignificant amount, because for our people, the treasures of the whole world are not worth a single iota of our sovereignty, but because “that this suggestion contradicts the memorandum of understanding which was inked in the spirit which prevailed during the Rome Conference last July, which was a Tunisian-Italian initiative”.

President Saïed clarified that “Tunisia is doing everything possible to dismantle the criminal networks of trafficking in human beings and organs, in addition to the fact that our country has never been the reason for this misery encountered by most African people. and like many countries, it has suffered in turn from the current world order and neither it nor the nations from which these migratory waves come want to be victims again of a world system in which justice does not prevail. not and in which the human being is not respected.
