Tunisia-Saïed: Tunisia refuses to be a crossing point or place for migrants to settle

President of the Republic, Kais Saied, welcomed this afternoon, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Carthage Palace, Mr. Nabil Ammar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad.

The Head of State recollected the constants of Tunisian diplomacy, the most significant of which is the independence of national decision-making resulting from the popular will and the refusal by our country of any interference in its internal affairs. Tunisia does not accept that any party treats this issue other than on an equal footing.

This meeting also examined the next diplomatic dates, whether at the bilateral or multilateral level.

The President of the Republic emphasised the role of consuls abroad and the necessity for greater awareness among Tunisian citizens because many of them face the difficulty of travelling from their residence to consulates without obtaining the services they need.

The meeting also addressed the issue of irregular migration, where the President of the Republic underscored once again that Tunisia, which treats migrants with humanity, declines to be neither a crossing point nor a place of settlement, revealing in this context that this phenomenon, which is getting worse every day, was never caused by Tunisia, but rather suffered by Tunisia, which bears the impacts of a global system which has led to these inhuman conditions. Also, specialized international organizations that were supposed to help Tunisia often content themselves with declarations or try to impose a fait accompli that Tunisians will never accept.
