Tunisia – secondary education union resolved to confrontation

The secretary general of the Federation for Secondary Education, Mohamed Safi, reported Wednesday that the federation was preparing for demonstration movements to condemn the refusal to negotiate by the Ministry of Education.

He voiced his regrets in a statement on the sidelines of a press conference held by the federation, due to the “blocking of the means of negotiation despite several correspondences with the supervisory authority.

He stated that, following what was agreed at a recent meeting of the administrative body, a protest and rally will be organized in front of the Ministry of Education at the ending of April, adding that all state branches were requested to support teachers in their protest.

In the same context, he also confirmed the support of trade unionists for their demands for an improvement in the monetary situation and for their long-standing demands.

Concerning the uploading of students’ grades, he clarified that the traditional method of submitting numbers will be adopted, rejecting the electronic platform that the ministry asked to adopt because the federation was not involved in this project.

Regarding the prosecution of trade unionists due to union sabbaticals, Safi explained that union sabbaticals are signed by the Prime Minister, rejecting that it is a waste of public money.
