A vast security operation occurred on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 in Sousse, jointly involving the police and the National Guard. This campaign resulted in the detention of 170 wanted people, some of whom were categorised as dangerous. During the operation, drugs, bladed weapons employed in attacks, as well as alcohol intended to be sold illegally were seized.
The campaign targeted areas around educational institutions and transport stations, with increased controls in areas known for criminal activity. Among the seizures, security forces seized two plates and 18 small pieces of cannabis, more than 100 Erica-type drug tablets, as well as bladed weapons.
A particularly dangerous person wanted for attempted murder, hijacking, sexual assault and drug trafficking, was arrested in La Grande Kasbah. He was the subject of 24 search warrants.
