Tunisia – Sfax: Several injured in clashes between sub-Saharan migrants

“Al-Hamaizia” region of the Al-Amra delegation in the governorate of Sfax saw this evening, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, clashes and acts of violence between migrants from sub-Saharan Africa present in the region, which caused wounds of varying severity to several of them, requiring their transfer to the Habib Bourguiba University Hospital in Sfax, according to a regional official.

The first delegate responsible for managing the affairs of the Sfax governorate, Mohamed En-Nafti Qadouda, confirmed that “the situation is currently under control and is marked by cautious calm, given the security presence on site,” Reinforcements have been called for this objective.

He emphasised that there were arrests among African immigrants, in addition to the opening of inquiries, to determine the causes of the clashes.

He stated these clashes between sub-Saharan Africans are not the first of their kind.

Thousands of irregular migrants from sub-Saharan countries live in the region in camps spread across different locations.
