In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, political activist Sghaier Zakraoui remarked on the advancement of the national consultation launched on the directives of the President of the Republic Kais Saied last January. Zakraoui declared that the number of participants represents only 4% of the electorate indicating that the figure needs to be equal to, at least, 25% of the body in question.
Believing that the number listed is not representative, Zakraoui stated that the national consultation could not be used to develop reforms affecting the political system or the electoral law. “This initiative is equivalent to an opinion poll which aimed to consolidate the legitimacy of the Head of State while excluding parties and national organizations. This is, in fact, a missed chance during which a lot of time has been lost,” he said, making it known that the President of the Republic must move towards direct dialogue.
