Tunisia – Shipwreck off Gabes: No major environmental risk

A source from the Ministry of Transport told Tunisie Numerique that, after the sinking of a fuel ship off Gabes, the situation is, for the moment, not worrying and there is no imminent major environmental risk.

The same source confirmed that the diesel represents the clean fuel of the ship and that the cargo which consists of light diesel, much less harmful than diesel, remained intact and no leaks were recorded.

The ship’s crew has been removed since yesterday, and a crisis management plan is being executed to limit any risk of an oil spill.

The area of the shipwreck has been circumscribed and barriers  will be set up to avoid any diffusion of polluting products.
