The Minister of Finance, Sihem Nemsia, welcomed, on Friday, February 18, 2022, the Vice-President of the World Bank (WB) for the Middle East and North Africa, Ferid Belhaj.
This meeting was a chance to examine the characteristics of the financial and technical collaboration between Tunisia and the WB and the work program for the forthcoming period.
The Minister of Finance gave an outline of the indicators of the financial and economic situation and the pressures exercised on public finances, highlighting the significance for the Tunisian government of concluding a deal with the International Monetary Fund. In this context, she specified that an IMF working group is currently in discussions with the Tunisian side on the reform program.
On the other hand, the Minister revealed that the Tunisian State continues, despite the pressures, to play its role, both, by respecting its commitments with donors, and internally, by continuing to play its economic role. and social role.
For his part, Ferid Belhaj reiterated the availability of the World Bank to back Tunisia in the implementation of the reform program, reiterating the Bank’s wish to continue existing cooperation programs, especially in the areas of social security and support for SMEs.
