Tunisia-Slaheddine Jourchi: UGTT bet is difficult at the moment [Audio]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, political analyst Slaheddine Jourchi remarked on the statements made by Noureddine Taboubi following his re-election as head of the UGTT. Jourchi believed that the bet of the UGTT is difficult or even impossible because the President of the Republic Kais Saied has not familiarised Tunisians to back down. According to him, the Head of State continues to execute his political project while concentrating on local democracy from the base as a strategic choice. “How does Taboubi then plan to convince the President of the Republic to give up his objective?” he wondered. The analyst confirmed that Saied will reject the idea of a representative parliament as well as the renunciation of these political choices pointing the finger at the demands of the UGTT on the one hand and the obligations of the government vis-à-vis the IMF of the other side which, in his view, will complicate the consensus process.

Commenting on the meeting of prime minister Nejla Bouden and UGTT Secretary-General Noureddine Taboubi, Slaheddine Jourchi expressed that the results of the collaboration will not match the commitments that have been made. According to him, everything depends on the IMF and the political and socio-economic crisis in the country. He examined the victory of Taboubi and his list specifying that the problem lies in the dictates of the IMF and the President of the Republic.
