During a ceremony organized Saturday at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, Prime minister Hichem Méchichi honoured security elements that contributed to the elimination of terrorists in Akouda at the governorate of Sousse.
“This is a message sent to anyone who tries to undermine national security”, said the head of government in a speech delivered on this occasion and published on the page of the presidency of the government.
Two agents of the National Guard were struck last Sunday by three terrorists in a vehicle at the Akouda crossing in El Kantaoui, the Interior Ministry said, adding that the three attackers were shot dead.
The security units searched the area and surrounded the attackers and managed to neutralize them after an exchange of gunfire, the Interior Department said in a statement.
Warrant Officer Sami Mrabet was killed in the attack shortly after being admitted to hospital while Warrant Officer Rami Limam is receiving necessary treatment.
