Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Director of the Health Preservation Department in the Tunis Municipality Omar Naifer confirmed that the municipality’s interests have started to intervene in the treatment of mosquitoes throughout the year without interruption, with operations strengthening during this period with the rise in temperatures and the density of mosquitoes in different regions.
Naifer clarified that the municipality is treating rural mosquitoes within the framework of the national plan to fight insects and urban mosquitoes remarking that the intervention process is to lower the numbers of these insects because it is not possible to eliminate them.
The speaker stated that as for the washwasha, the main source is the Sijoumi sabkha, and it is preferable for intervention to be at the level of resistance to the larvae before it shifts into the washwasha, but this process can only be accomplished with the water percentage in the sabkha dropping to only 50 cm. It is then possible to intervene to carry out the treatment process, either by plane or using injections.
As for the urban mosquitoes, the director of health care expressed that the municipality is in the process of draining the corridors, which are present in large numbers in Tunisia, and which need a lot of effort and time, calling on people to engage in this effort and carry out the process of maintaining their corridors for later treatment.
Regarding rural mosquitoes, Naifer pointed out that the municipality of Tunis carries out treatment even at the level of other governorates of Kariana, Ben Arous, Sousse and Kairouan.
