Tunisia-[Audio]Sijoumi lagoon: This is why any intervention to battle mosquitoes is currently impossible

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, director of health and environmental protection in the municipality of Tunis Omar Neifer said that the mosquito invasion is a normal phenomenon that increases with growing temperatures. He pointed out that the agents of the municipalities take care of mosquito control every year.

The officials further said that municipalities have intervened to handle the problem since last January but that climatic circumstances have blocked the operation from continuing.

Omar Neifer added that the Sijoumi Lagoon is one of the most significant wetlands in North Africa, where mosquitoes hibernate, adding that the high water level currently stops any aerial intervention to combat this phenomenon.
