Tunisia: STEG will start installing smart meters from next January

The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) intends to set up smart meters from January 2022. The commercial director of STEG, Sami Ben Hmida explained that the company aims through this project, which will be launched in the governorate of Sfax, to enhance the services of the company by placing 20,000 meters in a first step before generalizing the experience throughout the territory during the period between 2025 and 2029.

Smart meters enable remote reading and billing without having to travel to the site to read the power consumption index. These meters further allow the consumer to track their consumption and even make monthly payments.
