Tunisia- Sweden grants 400,000 dollars to UNICEF Tunisia

Sweden provided 400,000 dollars (about 1.15 million dinars) to UNICEF Tunisia through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The funds will be allocated for the acquisition of protective equipment for health workers who are endangered to risks that put them at risk of infection. This will assist magnify measures set out in the anti-COVID-19 strategy.

The Health Ministry will take shipment of the equipment within ten days, states UNICEF Tunisia Communication Officer Mokhtar Dahari, UNICEF raised funds from its broad array of partners and donors in a bid to help finance the global response to the pandemic. Sweden was among the first countries to provide funding.

A collection of criteria was set by UNICEF to recognise priority recipient countries. “Tunisia was chosen by UNICEF based on a key appraisal criterion: the government’s crisis response capacity. UNICEF Tunisia is deeply grateful for the support and commitment that Sweden has always shown for UNICEF, particularly in this large-scale project to contain COVID-19,” said UNICEF Representative in Tunisia Lila Pieters.

Swedish Ambassador to Tunisia Anna Block Mazoyer declared that «the fight to be fought should be global and each one of us should contribute to collective efforts to preserve global health.” “Our support for Tunisia will also continue over time to underpin UNICEF action beyond the COVID-19 pandemic and cushion the impact of this crisis, particularly on children,» she added.
