A national army patrol was targeted last night by snipers positioned at the Tunisian-Libyan border, on the Libyan side, as it pursued eight contraband vehicles that had entered the Tunisian territory in the area of El Manzla, in the governorate of Tataouine.
Snipers on Libyan soil were providing cover under fire from smugglers trying to flee the borders on the Tunisian side.
A soldier was shot and wounded in the leg during this operation and had to be taken to Tataouine hospital.
The patrol managed to intercept the eight vehicles and stop the eleven individuals who were on board, before handing them over to National Guard officers.
