Tunisia: Torrential rains and floods in municipalities of Monastir

Brigadier General Adel Bouazizi, the regional director of civil protection in Monastir, noted that civil protection teams intervened today following heavy rainfalls to recover an overturned car at a construction site designed to protect the city of Sayada from floods. Fortunately, the accident did not result in any casualties.

Witnesses in Sayada informed TAP that a car carrying a man, woman, and child fell into a rectangular hole on the road. The hole was part of an intervention carried out by the National Sanitation Office about two months ago to repair a damaged channel.

In a related development, Hamdi Qardbou, head of the Road Maintenance and Operations Department at the Regional Administration of Equipment and Housing in Monastir, told TAP that traffic was partially interrupted on Regional Road No. 191 near Beni Hassan due to flooding from the Beni Hassan wadi. The disruption lasted approximately an hour and a half before traffic resumed. Similar interruptions occurred on Local Road No. 857 in Sayada and Regional Road No. 92 in Sayada, near the Kesibet El Mediouni delegation. Nevertheless, the Regional Administration of Equipment and Housing quickly intervened, and traffic continued without major issues.

Additionally, the Regional Commission for Agricultural Development in Monastir recorded rainfall levels from 7 a.m. to noon, with the highest amount being 137 mm in the Sayada Lamta Bouhajar delegation and the lowest, 5 mm, in the Sahline and Werdanine delegations.
