Tunisia-Tozeur announces candidacy for Arab Environment Capital

Tozeur is declaring its candidacy for the Arab Environment Capital.

In a statement to the TAP, Deputy Mayor Wassila Hedfi announced that Many sessions will take place to address Tozeur’s bid. They will be attended by experts and representatives of the related administrations and associations,
This is a regional contest intended to pick the best Arab cities in the field of environment protection, Hedfi added.

Recognized for its oases, Tozeur was chosen by the Local Affairs Ministry to represent Tunisia in this competition.

Certainly, the oases are what defines the city, providing it a natural, environmental and esthetic particularity.

Notwithstanding climate change, the city of Tozeur has maintained its environmental features by making usage of its oasis residues and its components in the architecture.

The city has also safeguarded the cultural and economic features of the oases, including traditional transport methods and the use of solar energy as clean energy in public lighting.

Tozeur’s candidacy will include various economic, touristic and cultural aspects as well as indicators on the municipality’s respect for the environment.
