With permission of President Kais Saied, Tunisia has pledged 100 thousand dollars to ease the suffering of Palestinian refugees
The decision arises after Tunisia participation in the Extraordinary Virtual Ministerial Pledging Conference for UNRWA. During the conference, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Salma Ennaifar requested the international community “to combine efforts to assist the Palestinian people.”
Ennaifar emphasized in her speech on the UNRWA’s vital role to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees through education, health and relief programmes, particularly in a difficult context characterised by the spread of COVID-19.
She recalled in this regard, Tunisia’s consistent position, which stands by the brotherly Palestinian people in its struggle to regain its legitimate rights and build its independent and sovereign state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds as its capital.
There is also the issue of terminating the occupation of the Palestinian territories, guaranteeing respect for international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy, preventing the annexation of new Palestinian territories by Israel and redoubling efforts to restart the peace process on the principle of the two-State solution.
The conference was held on June 23, under the motto: “A strong UNRWA in a challenging world – mobilising collective action.”
