Tunisia ranked 65 in terms of English proficiency on a list of 88 non-English-speaking countries and regions, according to a Swiss-based international language education organization. Tunisia has kept its rank for the second consecutive year.
The ranking was based on surveys carried in the structure of an online quiz with the participation of approximately 2.2 million adults from 100 non-native English speaking countries and territories.
For the first time, the points scale has been relocated to 800 this year, equal to English level C2, the sixth and final level in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
On the Arab level, Bahrain placed first in the 79th place, followed by Tunisia in the 65th place and the UAE in the 70th place. Other regions to be included in the ranking is Jordan which ranked 75th, Morocco 76th, Egypt 77th, Syria 82nd and Kuwait 84th.
A total of twelve countries were ranked in the ‘very high proficiency’ category, the highest level. Ten of the 12 are in Europe. The full top 12 is as follows:
