Tunisia – Tunisia ranks first in the Arab world in Freedom Index

Freedom house ranked Tunisia first in the Arab world in the freedom index for the 5th year in a row.

According to Freedom House: Tunisia “Competitive presidential and parliamentary elections reinforced the country’s democratic institutions, though a state of emergency remained in place due to the ongoing threat of terrorism”.

The annual report measures civil liberties and political rights in 195 countries and 15 territories. Scoring a maximum 100 points, Finland, Norway and Sweden top global ranking of global freedom, followed by Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland and Australia. 

Syria ranked last in the index of freedom.
