Tunisia-Tunisian-American memorandum of understanding signed in the health sector

A Tunisian-American memorandum of understanding was signed between the Health Ministry and the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) for the strengthening of the principles of good governance in the health sector and to help Tunisia’s efforts to confront health crises in the future.

The project is intended to reinforce the principles of good governance in Tunisia’s healthcare sector and tackle corruption. The MoU was signed by Health Minister Faouzi Mehdi and CIPE Country Representative in Tunisia Ali Ayadi, in the presence of US Ambassador in Tunis Donald Blome.

The project intends to further develop the information system, especially with regard to monitoring the supply chain of drugs in public health structures, in addition to strengthening the legal and regulatory framework for the management of the health sector as well as improving the training system for health professionals.
The project will be carried over a period of 3 years, till 2023. Its value amounts to 13.5 million dinars, financed by the American Embassy in Tunis., The project will be implemented in cooperation between the Ministry of Health, the Embassy of the United States of America in Tunisia, the CIPE and the various stakeholders.

On this occasion, Mr Mehdi asserted that this project is the first of its sort in the health sector between the Tunisian and American governments, falling within the framework of increasing governance in the health sector and development of health services given to citizens in many public hospital institutions.

For his part, Mr. Blome communicated his nation’s steadfast desire to support development programs in Tunisia and to back its efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic as well as all health emergencies, emphasising the constant concern for the success of this project directed at further improving the Tunisian health system.
