In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, today, Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the President of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, Naila Zoghlami, said that raising Rifka Cherni’s killer sentence to 40 years in prison can only confirm and prove that this case is fair. She hailed the role of the judiciary in establishing the principle of not Escaping from the Punishment.
Zaghlami added that the Democratic Women’s Association witnessed relief among the family of Rifka Charn after this ruling, and invited them to accept condolences for her death, remarking that they wished for life imprisonment.
She demanded that the killer not be granted any kind of pardon, because that would establish impunity, and she recollected that Cherni was killed by her husband with gunshots.
