Tunisian Bilel Jamoussi, Doctor in computer engineering specialising in communication networks is candidate for Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Standarisation Bureau for the term 2023-2026.
The elections will take place during the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference to be held from September 26 to October 14, 2022 in Bucharest, Romania.
Bilel Jamoussi is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He holds 23 U.S. patents in the areas of optical networks and data, wireless networks and quality of service.
He has held several international positions, including Head of the Study Group Department at the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau in Geneva (since 2010).
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi said at the meeting with Bilel Jamoussi Wednesday that the ministry backs this application.
Quoted in a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerandi said the department will provide the necessary support for Jammousi’s bid, in co-ordination with the Ministry of ICT.
Bilel Jamoussi said his candidacy is backed by the Council of Arab Ministers of Communication and Information Technology, noting that the Telecommunications Standardisation Bureau is one of the strategic structures of the ITU.
