Tunisians has become one of the largest consumers of bottled water in the globe with an average of more than 220 litres per year, according to figures issued in the recent FTDES study on “Environmental rights: between violations and struggles daily ”.
The total consumption of mineral water attained 2.70 billion litres corresponding to about 1 billion bottles with various sizes of 0.33 cl, 0.5 l, 0.75 l, 1 l, 1.5 l L, 2 L, 6 L and 19 litres, an annual average of 225 litres in 2020 per person against 44 litres in 2007, and 12 litres in 1995, the FTDES adds.
In Tunisia, 29 production units are found in 12 governorates and produce more than 364,000 bottles per hour. These sites hire around 3000 people and generate an annual turnover of around 637 million dinars.
