Tunisia – UGTT condemns arrest of its deputy secretary general

UGTT national executive meeting urgently this evening, condemned in a press release the detention of its deputy secretary general, in charge of the private sector, Tahar Mezzi, against the backdrop of a case linked to his secondment for the benefit of the UGTT. He is anticipated to be questioned tomorrow by the Bizerte public prosecutor’s office.

The UGTT believes that this arrest is purely political and seeks to destabilize and terrorize trade unionists on the eve of their big meeting scheduled for March 2, at Kasbah Square.

The UGTT demanded the immediate release of Mezzi and called on trade unionists to respond to this provocation with enormous participation in the March 2 meeting.
