The UGTT Executive Bureau talked, this Thursday, March 31, 2022, following the decision of the President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, to dissolve Parliament. For the UGTT, it is no longer necessary for a Parliament to continue its work, while it shows a bad image that reflects a poisoned political life.
On the other hand, the UGTT refused Parliament’s recourse to foreign nations to plan the division of the country and drive Tunisia into the unknown. “The dissolution of Parliament, after a period of hesitation, is a chance to restore the people’s confidence and hope in a reform. This requires actions that basically seek to bring together national and democratic forces for a dialogue that ensures the capacity to transform the will into reform and into a force capable of rescuing Tunisia. For the UGTT, the dissolution of Parliament is a crucial step to put an ending to the suffering of certain deputies sanctioned by the ban on resuming their work. This is an opportunity to cut the route to abuse through this function to attack the country. The UGTT, nevertheless, called for not implicating justice in the political tussles. “It is also crucial to provide guarantees to put an end to the exceptional situation,” it notes.
