The Deputy Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labor Union, Sami Taheri, affirmed today, Thursday, that the union is still expecting an answer from the Presidency of the Republic concerning a national dialogue initiative that has been presented.
Speaking to Jawhara FM: “We are still waiting notwithstanding a positive reaction from civil society and some parties to the Union initiative,” remarking that “the interaction of the Presidency of the Republic is bound until now to simple allusions which cannot suffice “.
The deputy secretary-general of the UGTT added: “It is as if things were prepared over low heat … despite an increase of the tension and the dangerousness of the political scene”, referring to the already tense situation in Parliament in conjunction with an ambiguous economic and social situation. ”
On the other hand, Taheri rejected Mohamed Abbou’s call to dissolve parliament and encourage the army to intervene, ruling out what he called “dictatorial methods”.
The union official revealed that dialogue continues with civil society to resolve appropriate and potential protest movements.
