Tunisia-UGTT opposes any reduction in wages

Prime minister Elyes Fakhfakh had warned of the deteriorating state of public finances, “which could force the government to cut wages and no longer pay pensions.”

In response to this, The Tunisian General Labour Union” UGTT ” firmly rejected any reduction in public service wages. UGTT deputy secretary-general Hfaiedh Hfaiedh said on Monday, June 15, that the UGTT refuses, in fact, any potential reduction in wages .

In a statement to TAP, he explained that “the economic situation requires more consensus and dialogue with the government and that it is not acceptable for the official to foot the bill with each crisis”.

“The vision of the UGTT   focuses on the fight against tax evasion, and the consolidation of measures and decisions capable of reviving the economy to deal with this situation,” he said.
